Why high-contrast sheen confuses generic models

Highly reflective materials such as satin, latex, and polished leather bounce ambient light in complex patterns. When an AI receives an input with harsh hotspots or blown-out highlights, it can mistake the reflected shine for pigment discoloration or structural seams. Diffusing the light source before taking your source photograph keeps the surface luminance consistent and gives the model a dependable reading of the true fabric texture.

Diffuse lighting is your best friend for complex textures

For fabrics with heavy physical dimension—like waffle weaves, cable knits, or raw denim—raking light can create deep micro-shadows that distort the silhouette. Use soft, multidirectional bounce lighting to illuminate the valleys of the weave without washing out the texture. This ensures the generator recognizes the tactile surface rather than interpreting shadow lines as artificial noise or stitching anomalies.

Use high-resolution flat details alongside the main angle

While full-body generations benefit from seeing the garment draped on a mannequin or laid flat, fine construction details like zipper pulls, mesh paneling, and delicate embroidery require crisp edge definition. Photographing a close-up macro shot in identical lighting provides the essential reference needed to evaluate whether the generated garment faithfully retains the garment's signature fabric character.
